OnTheRoad: New Zealand’s “caviar”

Would you be able to guess the main ingredient of this omelette? Do you feel like eating it?

It’s made of whitebait, a baby fish. Don’t you believe it? Have a look at the following picture and you see the small fishes. I had read that whitebait is delicious but also expensive (1kg costs 80$), but I didn’t know what it was until we stopped at a little shop where they offer a try-portion like the one in the picture before for 8$. When I saw what it was I thought about those programs where you have to eat all kind of strange things. Well, maybe it wasn’t that weird, but I’m not a big fan of fish, ha,ha,ha.

Do you think I was able to try them? Of course I did! You know that in a way I enjoy putting myself out of my confidence zone, ha,ha,ha. If you eat them without thinking what it’s inside, it’s tasty. Although I wouldn’t eat them every day. Once I’m back I’ll write the rest of the story.
