Philips MobileLink Digital cordless phone S10

In 2012 I submitted a picture for the Philips’ +100000 homes screensaver photo competition and my picture was selected/won. When I enter the competition I didn’t know in which product it would be used, many products have a screensaver. Well, my picture is being used in the Philips MobileLink Digital cordless phone S10!!

When the phone was available in the store, I went to check that indeed my picture was available. And it was!!! You can imagine how happy I felt knowing that one of my pictures has been seen by hundred thousands of people around the world!!

En cuanto el telefono estuvo en las tiendas fui a comprobar si mi foto aparecia. Y si, mi foto es uno de los salvapantallas del Philips MobileLink Digital cordless phone S10!! Ya os podéis imaginar lo orgullosa y feliz que me sentí al saber que una de mis fotos está siendo vista y usado por cientos de miles de personas en todo el mundo!

Maybe some people have asked themselves if is there a story behind the picture. And there is!! Indeed the story begins with that picture. Some of you know that I have a little green house in the garden where I grow tomatoes and other veggies. I try to be as green as possible and therefore I use ladybirds to get ride of aphids. And the little boy of my neighbors is not the only one looking for ladybirds and putting them into my green house.

Quizás haya gente que se haya preguntado si hay una historia detrás de la foto. Y esa historia es la que os voy a contar hoy. Muchos sabréis que tengo un invernadero en el jardín donde cultivo tomates y otras verduras. Bueno pues además sólo usa “pesticidas” naturales como las mariquitas para acabar con los pulgones. No creais que sólo es el hijo de mis vecinos el que si ve una mariquita la pone dentro del invernadero, yo también lo hago.

Once I found these ladybirds and put them into my green house. I love macro photography and took the picture above. A day later, I saw the ladybird laying eggs and again I took some pictures. Five days latter Mary (my baby ladybird) was born 😉

Un día encontré a estas dos mariquitas y ls puse en el invernadero. Como me gusta la fotografía macro y justo había comprado unos anillos de extensión, hice un par de fotos. Un día después vi a la mariquita hembra poniendo huevos y volví a hacer fotos. Cinco días después nació mi proyecto fotográfico: Mary.

Can’t you see her? It’s the black tinny insect!! That day I started a photo blog about Mary. I didn’t know how long it would take to get a “real” ladybird and it was difficult to find her in the the green house (she was staying in the same plant eating aphids). 10 days she was full-sized and started the conversion (like the butterflies). Luckily I also saw the moment she was coming out. She was first yellow and within half and hour got the red color.

¿Reconocéis a Mary en la foto anterior? Es el bichito negro. Ese dia empecé un photo blog pero lo que no sabía era cuánto iba a durar. Pronto supe cuánto tarda una mariquita en crecer: después de diez días empieza la metamorfosis de bichito negro a mariquita, de una forma similar a la de las mariposas. Y aunque os parezca mentira tuve la suerte de ver cuando salía del capullo como mariquita, pero de color amarillo. En una hora y media cambió el color de amarillo a rojo.
